Biography

Dr Melanie Strang is a Registered Psychologist practising at Meridian Health in Fitzroy. She brings an unusual combination of medical and psychological training, having completed both a Bachelor of Science and a medical degree (MBBS) before undertaking graduate study in psychology, including a Graduate Diploma in Psychology and a Graduate Diploma in Psychology (Advanced).

This dual background gives Dr Strang a distinctive understanding of the physiological, behavioural and emotional dimensions of weight, eating and metabolic health. She works closely with the surgical and physician team at Meridian, providing psychological assessment and ongoing support for patients pursuing metabolic bariatric surgery or medical weight management.

Dr Strang has a particular interest in the psychological factors that drive eating behaviour, including emotional eating, food cravings, restrictive patterns and the relationship between body image and self-worth. She uses evidence-based therapeutic approaches, primarily cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), to help patients build sustainable behavioural change alongside their clinical treatment.
