Body Composition Scan.
A precise measurement of lean mass, fat mass and fat distribution, used to monitor metabolic progress throughout your treatment.
A scan is included in your initial dietitian consultation. Additional scans are available at a cost, and scans can also be booked as a standalone appointment.
seca mBCA scanner.
Your weight is only part of the story.
A standard scale tells you one number. It cannot tell you whether you are losing fat or muscle, whether your visceral fat is improving, or whether your body is responding to treatment. Body composition scanning fills that gap.
A complete picture of your body composition.
The seca mBCA uses medical-grade bioelectrical impedance analysis to measure six key parameters that a standard scale cannot provide.
Body Fat %
Total fat mass and percentage body fat, with regional distribution identifying trunk and peripheral patterns associated with metabolic risk.
Muscle Mass
Total and segmental lean tissue by limb and trunk. Monitors muscle preservation during weight loss and tracks where strength is being built.
Visceral Fat
The fat stored around internal organs, which carries the highest cardiovascular and metabolic risk. Often reduced even when scale weight is stable.
Body Water
Total body water and fluid distribution. Particularly useful for identifying water retention following surgery or medication changes.
Fat-Free Mass
The composite of all non-fat tissue including muscle, bone and fluid. Provides a broader metabolic baseline for tracking true body change.
Progress Over Time
Serial scans allow your dietitian to track trends across appointments, distinguishing genuine fat loss from fluid shifts and muscle change.
You leave with a personalised report.
Every scan produces a detailed report reviewed with your dietitian or nurse. Results are trackable over time and can be shared with other members of your care team.
- Full breakdown of all measured parameters
- Comparison to your previous scan results
- Colour-coded reference ranges for each metric
- Digital access via the SECA MyAnalytics app
- Shareable with your surgeon, GP or exercise physiologist
Quick, non-invasive and requires no preparation.
Booking

The scan
The scan is non-invasive, requires no change of clothing and involves no preparation beforehand. You will need to remove your shoes and socks prior to the scan.
Results review
Results are reviewed with your dietitian or nurse during your consultation, and provided as a printed personalised report.
Repeat scanning
Follow-up scans can be arranged at any point in your treatment to track changes in fat and muscle over time.
