FRACS · MBBS (Hons) · BMedSci · AANZGOSA · GChPOM · Clinical Honorary Lecturer, University of Melbourne

Biography

Dr Nicole Winter is an Oesophago-Gastric and Metabolic Bariatric Surgeon at Meridian Health in Fitzroy, Melbourne. She cares for people living with obesity, as well as conditions affecting the oesophagus, stomach and digestive system.

She consults and operates at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and is a Clinical Lecturer at the University of Melbourne.

Nicole graduated with Honours from the University of Melbourne in 2007 and became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2016. She went on to complete advanced training in upper gastrointestinal surgery, followed by specialist training in bariatric surgery.

Nicole has extensive experience in advanced minimally invasive surgery. Her special interest is in metabolic weight management, reflux, hiatus hernia, and oesophageal and stomach cancer. She is often asked to care for patients with complex problems.

But for Nicole, good surgery is just the start, and care is about more than the operation.

She believes patients should feel heard, informed and supported throughout their care. At Meridian, she works closely with patients and a wider team to look at the whole picture — including surgery, nutrition, metabolic health, recovery and long-term wellbeing.

Nicole's goal is simple: to provide expert care while making the experience as clear, personal and empowering as possible.

Nicole is also a wife and mother of 3. Outside medicine, she values family, balance, resilience and giving back to the community. She believes that kindness and clinical excellence go hand in hand.
