A valid referral from your GP or specialist is required to book most investigations.

Gastroscopy
A camera is passed through the mouth to examine the oesophagus, stomach and the first part of the small intestine (duodenum). It is used to diagnose and, in some cases, treat problems of the upper digestive tract. The procedure takes approximately 10 minutes and is performed under light sedation.

- Monitoring of Barrett's oesophagus
- Assessment before surgery
Manometry and 24-hour pH Studies
Oesophageal manometry measures how well the muscles of the food pipe are working, including the pressure and coordination of muscle contractions. A 24-hour pH study monitors acid levels in the oesophagus over a full day and night. The two tests are often performed together and are commonly required before any anti-reflux surgery.

- Heartburn or reflux not well controlled by medication
- Chest pain without cardiac cause
- Pre-operative assessment for anti-reflux surgery
